History of Oris
From the Lohner & Co watch factory, Paul Cattin and Georges Christian, two watchmakers from Le Locle, founded the Oris Watch & Co watch factory in the village of Hölstein (BL) in Basel, Switzerland in 1904. In 1911 , the company provided work for more than 300 people and participated in the development of local industry, leading to a sharp increase in population in the 19th and 20th centuries. The watch company maintains close ties with the worlds of motorsport, music, art, aviation and diving. After the death of Georges Christian in 1927, the company was transformed into a joint-stock company.
In the 1960s, Oris employed 800 people. In 1970, she joined the ASUAG holding company, limiting it to inexpensive watches. In 1982, under the impetus of Chairman Rolf Portmann and Managing Director Ulrich W. Herzog, the company was bought out by its managers and became independent again under the name of Oris SA.
Today, the brand remains one of the few independent manufacturers like Swatch or Richemont.
I need a watch winder for my Oris watch ?
If you don't wear your Oris every day, consider putting it on a watch winder, because your Oris needs to be wound a certain number of times a day to fully wind the mainspring and extend its life.
A watch winder is a luxury device that maintains your Oris without worrying about winding it.
But if you wear your Oris every day, you don't need to put it in your winder.
Rotation direction for Oris
The watch winder must work properly to properly wind your Oris. It must be able to rotate clockwise, counter-clockwise and in both directions.
If your Oris needs to be wound clockwise, turning your watch counter-clockwise will not power it, so it will not be wound. To find out the direction of rotation of your Oris, you can follow our winding parameters for Oris.
Tours per day for Oris
The minimum number of revolutions an automatic watch needs to gain power often varies from day to day.
For example, most Oris watches require 650 TPD, you can check the winding parameters for Oris here.
If you spin a Oris watch winder at 200 or 400 TPD, the watch will not gain any power and the watch will stop.
